Five lo­cal play­ers head to na­tional U19 team camp

Five mem­bers of the Kawartha Women’s Field Lacrosse Club have been in­vited to the ini­tial se­lec­tion camp for Canada’s Un­der-19 Women’s Lacrosse Team.

Lau­ren Bell (St. Peter’s), Kate­lyn Buck­ton ( com­mit­ted to Ni­a­gara Univer­sity), Vic­to­ria Clark (Trent Univer­sity), Sky­lar McArthur ( Cani­sius Col­lege) and Maddy Moloney ( Univer­sity of Mas­sachusetts) will par­tic­i­pate in a train­ing camp this week­end at Syra­cuse Univer­sity in Syra­cuse, N.Y.

It’s the first of a se­ries of camps to be held to se­lect Canada’s ros­ter for the 2019 FIL Women’s U19 Field Lacrosse Cham­pi­onships to be hosted in Peter­bor­ough Aug. 1 to 10.

Kawartha alum­nus Al­li­son Da­ley, now head coach at Cani­sius Col­lege, is an as­so­ciate coach for Team Canada. She was Canada’s goalie when Peter­bor­ough hosted the 2007 world U19 cham­pi­onships. Kawartha head coach Fred Blowes has been in­vited by the Cana­dian Lacrosse As­so­ci­a­tion to be an eval­u­a­tor at the Syra­cuse Camp. He is also cochair of the 2019 tour­na­ment’s Peter­bor­ough or­ga­niz­ing com­mit­tee.

Fol­low­ing this camp the list of play­ers will be short­ened for the next camp in the spring.

Trent Univer­sity and Flem­ing Col­lege will play host the cham­pi­onships which will fea­ture 25 coun­tries.
