Five local players head to national U19 team camp
Five members of the Kawartha Women’s Field Lacrosse Club have been invited to the initial selection camp for Canada’s Under-19 Women’s Lacrosse Team.
Lauren Bell (St. Peter’s), Katelyn Buckton ( committed to Niagara University), Victoria Clark (Trent University), Skylar McArthur ( Canisius College) and Maddy Moloney ( University of Massachusetts) will participate in a training camp this weekend at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y.
It’s the first of a series of camps to be held to select Canada’s roster for the 2019 FIL Women’s U19 Field Lacrosse Championships to be hosted in Peterborough Aug. 1 to 10.
Kawartha alumnus Allison Daley, now head coach at Canisius College, is an associate coach for Team Canada. She was Canada’s goalie when Peterborough hosted the 2007 world U19 championships. Kawartha head coach Fred Blowes has been invited by the Canadian Lacrosse Association to be an evaluator at the Syracuse Camp. He is also cochair of the 2019 tournament’s Peterborough organizing committee.
Following this camp the list of players will be shortened for the next camp in the spring.
Trent University and Fleming College will play host the championships which will feature 25 countries.
