Crowley named junior coach of year
Guided Major Rookie AAA Tigers to provincial title
Adam Crowley, head coach of the Peterborough Major Rookie AAA Tigers, has been named 2018 Baseball Ontario Junior Coach of the Year.
Crowley was voted to the title by a panel selected by Baseball Ontario after guiding the Major Rookie AAA Tigers to the Peterborough Baseball Association’s first AAA All Ontario Championship since 1994.
Crowley was presented the award at a ceremony at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata,
Ont. during the 2018 Baseball Ontario annual general meeting over the weekend.
Crowley led the Major Rookie AAA Tigers team to a second straight undefeated season in the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association before making an incredible run at the provincial championships held over the Labour
Day weekend in North Toronto.
The season looked to be on the wrong path as the team lost the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association league final to the Pickering Red Sox just two weekends before the provincial tournament.
“Adam has taught these boys to believe in themselves and each other. This team is the true definition of never giving up,” said Andrea Hatton, a mother on the team who helped in putting the nomination forward.
Under Crowley’s leadership over the past two seasons, the team has won four tournament titles, an Eastern Ontario Baseball Association Championship and now the AAA Ontario Championship to go along with multiple skills competition wins.
A graduate of the Peterborough Baseball Association, Crowley worked to grow the game of baseball in the city he grew up in. Through hard work and endless commitment, Crowley has helped grow the entire Peterborough Baseball Association to a well-rounded program including introducing minor and major rookie rep teams as well as a minor rookie development team to give children a more in-depth experience at younger ages.
As a teenager Crowley was named to Team Ontario baseball four years running and has brought that knowledge forward to assist the players he has come in contact with.
“What Adam has given to this Association is amazing. His dedication to not only his team, but to each team that falls under our umbrella is spectacular,” said Peterborough Baseball Association president Shawn Micks.
“To see a coach of Adam’s calibre and dedication level be recognized is great for our city and our Association.”
Crowley is a demanding coach who instills qualities of competitiveness, determination, and sportsmanship. He has taught the boys how to be gracious both in victory and defeat, something he considers to be very important attributes in any athlete.
“A huge thank you goes out to Adam on behalf of all of the players, coaches, and parents for all his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the team,” assistant coach Craig Stanley said.
