Councillor-elect Kim Zippel will be the speaker at a Green party function at Camp Kawartha's Environment Centre on Tuesday.

Executive officers for both the federal and provincial local riding associations will be elected at the meeting.

Gianne Broughton, Green party candidate in the June provincial election, will stand for president of both associations.

Meanwhile Zippel, an advocate for forest and wetland preservation, will speak to the group at the meeting.

Zippel will be talking about how to stay true to your message while broadening your base of support, according to a release from the party

The Green party's current goal is to do just that: broaden its base of support in Peterborough while staying true to its environmentalist message, the release states.

"Climate change is not going to wait," Broughton states in the release. "The Green party knows how to lead us into a low-carbon economy employing more people right here in Peterborough."

The event will also include exhibits from local organizations and clean-economy businesses, states the release. There will also be a supper with vegetarian options.

The event is open to the public, and will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Environment Centre at 2505 Pioneer Rd. near Trent University in Peterborough.

Zippel is a wetlands and forest preservation advocate who has spoken to council several times about potential environmental damage that could be done to Harper Park, as development takes place nearby.

Zippel was formerly a certified control-room operator at Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.

With her husband Mark she now co-owns Zippel Integrated Process Solutions Inc., a local consulting firm that provides oversight for major industrial projects.
