Five champions crowned at PSB Wilson Squash Classic
Five champions, including three representing the Pickering Rec Complex, were crowned in the sixth PSB Wilson Squash Classic held Friday and Saturday at the Peterborough Squash Club.
More than 100 matches were played between a tournament record 61 participants in the fundraising event which raised over
$3,000 to support club improvements and programming.
In the A Division final Scott Gormley (Pickering Rec Complex) defeated Chris Buys (Peterborough) 11-8, 4-11, 13-11, 7-11, 12-10 in the final.
In the B Division final Greg Sweeney (Pickering Rec Complex) beat Bill Dickinson (Mayfair Parkway) 11-8, 11-6, 11-4.
The C Division champion was Noor Zubair (Pickering Rec Complex) who conquered Joshua McCoy (Barrie Athletic Club) 11-9, 7-11, 13-11, 11-6.
The D Division winner Mike Marontate (Ontario) defeated Jason Hicks (Campbellford and District Curling & Racquet Club) 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8.
The 60+ Division featured Ray Kerslake (Peterborough Squash Club) over David Carroll (Oshawa C.A.C.) 12-10, 11-6, 11-8.
Players from the Pickering Rec Complex dominated the draw winning the top three divisions while Peterborough Squash Club pro Ray Kerslake earned 60+ division honours.
Other highlights included tournament namesake Paul Wilson taking to the court in the annual serve challenge. Sponsors of the tournament included Gold Dot Partners Rodlin Instruments, Tyson Shennett CPA, The Galvin Team, Kawartha Dairy, the Publican House, Shaun Milne Signs, The Squash Shop at the PSC, the Peterborough Petes, Black Knight, Salming and Karakal.
