The village of Asphodel Norwood has experienced substantial growth in the last few years with many new homes being built and many new businesses opening up.

The ceremonial opening ribbon was recently cut to open the village’s newest business venture, Connor’s Cones and Café. The unique café is located on Colborne St. directly across from the Royal Bank. Owner Phill Farrugia offers a large variety of coffees, bubble teas, ice creams (including his own handmade flavours), malted milkshakes, frozen yogurt, sandwiches, soups, some rather tasty Maltese specialties and he is also offering up a pretty good traditional breakfast.

The café was originally started in Havelock. However the opportunity to move to Norwood came up and he has not looked back since, “I really like the friendly atmosphere in Norwood,” said Phill. “We had over 1,000 customers since we unofficially opened four weeks ago; the community has been extremely supportive.”

An evening of music

Knox Presbyterian Church in Havelock hosted a delightful evening of music and fellowship called “Friends Sharing Songs of Blessings” on Nov. 2, featuring a nine-piece band from St. John’s Anglican Church, Lakefield. A good crowd of approximately 70 filled the church to listen to a large variety of music, singing and stories.

A free will offering was collected and raised $450 for the Havelock Food Bank. Afterwards guests enjoyed sandwiches and goodies in the church hall.

A special thank you goes to Rolf Joss for the use of his popcorn maker and related supplies plus himself to actually operate it.
