Chiefs pull into first with win over Merchants

LAKEFIELD — Jeff Hawthorne had two goals, including the winning goal, to lead the Lakefield Hendren Funeral Home Chiefs to an 8-2 romp over the Little Britain Merchants on Tuesday night at the LakefieldS­mith Community Centre.

John Post had a goal and two assists for the Chiefs, while Cole Robbins and Matt Carter each had a goal and an assist.

Zac Elliott, Ethan Young and William Keith also scored for Lakefield.

Carson Harwick had three assists for the Chiefs. Captain Braden Kublick, James Allen and Ryan Shaughness­y also had assists for Lakefield.

Lakefield outshot Little Britain 38-23.

Andrew Barwinski made 21 saves for the Chiefs for the win.

The win pulls Lakefield (16-5-0-1) into a tie with the North Kawartha Knights (16-3-0-1) for first place in the PJHL Orr Division. But North Kawartha holds two games in hand after their 3-1 win over Lakefield in Apsley last Saturday.

Little Britain falls to 3-16-2-1 and remains mired in last place in the Orr Division

The Chiefs will host the Tod Division’s Napanee Raiders at 7:25 p.m. Saturday at the LakefieldS­mith Community Centre and the Georgina Ice next Tuesday at 7:25 p.m.
