Ice Kats support Kawartha Food Share
Players donate food, prepare food packs in Giving Tuesday effort
The Peterborough Total Sportswear Peewee AA Ice Kats spread a little hope for the holidays on Tuesday.
The girls team took some time away from the rink to support Kawartha Food Share.
The Ice Kats arrived with donations in hand and after an overview from KFS board chairman Dave Ralph they quickly set to work. The Ice Kats were highly motivated and spent time sorting donations and preparing food boxes, according to a team press release.
The Ice Kats wanted to do something to give back to the community that has supported them. It was fitting that they chose #Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, to volunteer.
“It was heartening to see the team’s enthusiasm and pride for the work that they were doing. They learned about KFS and how their efforts would help to provide hope this holiday season,” stated Peewee AA Ice Kats coach Chris Moher.
Kawartha Food Share currently assists more than 8,100 men, women and children every month through 36 agencies.
The warehouse supports four meal programs, four city food banks, six housing projects, seven county food banks and over 20 food cupboards across the city and county of Peterborough.
Last year the warehouse distributed more than $5 million worth of food and emergency care needs.
