Freezing rain expected tonight
Freezing rain is likely Saturday night in Peterborough and the Kawarthas as a Colorado low system moves across Ontario, Environment Canada warned in a special weather statement issued Friday afternoon and also in effect for much of the rest of southern Ontario.
“Precipitation is expected to move into Central Ontario and parts of the Golden Horseshoe Saturday evening and will likely begin as freezing rain in most areas,” the special weather statement said as of 12:53 p.m. Friday.
“Several hours of freezing rain are possible before the precipitation changes to rain or ends later Saturday evening or overnight.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
“This wintry weather is associated with a Colorado low that will track through Southern Ontario this weekend.”
Saturday night’s freezing rain will be followed up Sunday by more rain and a balmy high of 10 C.
