Lakefield Lions, Lioness clubs collecting toys

Drive supports the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal

The Lakefield Lioness/Lions Club Annual Toy Drive is on now until Saturday. They have teamed up with Country 105 and Energy 99.7 for the Annual Christmas Toy Drive in support of the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal for area children and families in need. Donate new, unwrapped toys now. All toys will be picked up on Saturday and delivered on the new “Toy Bus” to Lansdowne Place in time for the Miracle Broadcast. Listen to Country 105 or Energy 99.7 for a list of locations or come in to one of over 25 locations the Village of Lakefield.

The Lakefield Lioness Lions are also having a Christmas Cake Fundraiser. Traditiona­l Christmas Fruit Cakes are $18 each and are available from Salon Sorella in Lakefield on Friday, or you can order through Arlene Jessop at 705-933-9003.

The Lioness Club will also have a Christmas Bake Sale on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street. The sale will feature a variety of home baked goodies and Lions Christmas Fruit Cakes just in time for your holiday entertaini­ng. Funds raised help support various families and needs within our community.

Chemung Lions

The Chemung Lake District Lions Club will be providing Christmas hampers to families in the Bridgenort­h and Ennismore area. Registrati­on can be done in person at the Selwyn Township office, and registrati­on will close on Friday Dec. 7 at the end of their business day. Hampers can be picked up on Saturday Dec. 22 at the Ennismore Community Care office 549 Ennis Road from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. There are no home deliveries available. Anyone wishing to make a donation of food or toys for children can drop them off at the Ennismore Community Care office during regular business hours.

Lakefield Legion Branch 77

The Lakefield Legion Branch 77 has a number of fun events coming up to help you get in the Christmas spirit. Their Fabulous Friday Night dinner is being held this Friday, and it will be a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Tickets are $15 in advance (by Wednesday prior) or $18 at the door. Reserve your advance tickets by calling 705-652-7988.

There will be a Christmas Turkey Spin at 2 p.m. on December 15. Buy a ticket for a toonie for a chance to win a turkey, ham or prize from the prize table. This is an age of majority event and will be held downstairs in the clubroom.

A Special Christmas Bingo will be presented on December 18. Cards and tickets go on sale at 6 p.m. and the hall opens at 5:30 pm. As well as the $1,050 in prizes, the $1,000 Jackpot will be awarded. Christmas prizes and gifts will be raffled off (tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5) and Christmas sweets and goodies will be available for munching. Christ Church Community Museum

Christ Church Community Museum invites you to join them at their annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. After the tree lighting, there will be carol singing in the church with special guests Jessica Ross and Noah Abrahamse. There will be a free will offering collected. Community Care Lakefield

Community Care will also have a Christmas Craft and Bake Sale on Dec. 5 from 9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at 40 Rabbit St. in Lakefield.
