- PAT MARCHEN KeeneNews@nexicom.net

Barbara Waldron, chief building official of Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, has earned the Building Partnership Award.

The award was created in 2015 to recognize a valuable industry colleague, individuals or municipalities who have shown a commitment to improving the new home building framework in Ontario, above the normal course of duty.

The Ontario Building Partnership was formed to increase consumer protection for new home buyers, improve industry standards and achieve greater consistency in education and application of standards in Ontario’s new home building industry.

Officials from the Ontario Home Builders Association, Ontario Building Officials Association and Tarion Warranty Corp. were to be at the township chambers Monday to present Waldron the award.

Gift of food

Any time is a good time to donate food or funds to the OSM Food Cupboard, but since you might be in Keene anyway on Dec. 8 to enjoy the festive activities, that would be a great time to donate.

Every little item helps – canned and packaged food that has not expired, toilet tissue and hygiene products. There will be people at the parade accepting donations or drop them off at the Keene United Church hall.

Weir journals

John Graham Weir kept daily journals from 1880 to 1925. They were donated by the Mitchell family of Stoney Creek to Trent Valley Archives. 1923 Dec. 7, Fri. The sun was shining bright this morning and we had no rain today. I was baking and doing house work all day. 1923 Dec. 8, I went up town this forenoon and got $900 insurance on our Stoney Lake cottage and boathouse and contents. 1924 Dec. 6, Sat. I rode up to the market with Tom Holden in his car. After dinner I did some baking. Dull damp weather all day. 1924 Dec. 8 Yesterday was like a pleasant day in spring. After dinner I went to where Lovina is in the cemetery to while away two hours and shed some tears for my loved one. After I came home I went to George Mitchells. 1924 Dec. 9 Yesterday I did some washing. There were three flannel bed blankets that Lovina spun the yarn for and my father wove fifty-seven years ago. Today was very stormy. Fred Weir came here this afternoon.
