Newest Toronto Maple Leaf owns restaurant in Peterborough

-

The newest addition to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ roster opened a vegan restaurant in Peterborough earlier this year.

Oshawa native Michael Carcone was traded from the Vancouver Canucks on Monday in exchange for fellow forward Josh Leivo. He owns the Copper Branch franchise at 1040 Lansdowne St. W, which opened in July.

The vegan restaurant offers plant-based power food. The Montreal-based chain was founded by Rio Infantino and has locations across Ontario and Quebec, plus a few in Alberta, with plans to open a couple in France later this year.

Carcone signed a three-year entry-level deal in 2016 and has played the past two seasons with the AHL's Utica Comets, which lost in the first round of the 2018 Calder Cup playoffs to the Leaf’s top farm club, the Toronto Marlies.

Leivo was traded after the Leafs needed to open a roster spot following the signing of forward William Nylander, who was without a deal until Saturday.
