Atom AA Ice Kats win gold at Whitby tourney

The Peterborough Atom AA Ice Kats won the gold medal at the Tournament of Heroes in Whitby on the weekend.

It marked the team’s second tournament victory this season after also winning the Clarington Applefest Tournament in October.

The Ice Kats posted a 2-0-2 record in round-robin play to advance to the championship game at the Tournament of Heroes. They started the roundrobin games with a 3-3 tie against the West Durham Lightning. In their second game the Ice Kats defeated the Sudbury Wolves 1-0. Game 3 was a 0-0 tie against the host Whitby Wolves. They clinched their spot in the final with 7-4 victory over the Clarington Flames.

The final marked a rematch against Whitby where Peterborough emerged with a 1-0 victory.

They posted a 4-0 record in winning the Clarington tournament.
