New mayor wrong to leave Clarke without portfolio

The Peterborough Examiner - - Opinion -

You can serve the citizens of Peterborough with distinction and marked dignity for years under several mayors, you can be the best prepared member of council bar none for each council meeting, you can have helped manage and control the spending of citizens’ hard earned money as chairman of the finance committee with the highest degree of competence and expertise, you can over the many years have publicly represented the city with credibility as deputy mayor at numerous official functions, you can always have spoken up with calm confidence-instilling remarks, you can have devoted a minimum of four evenings each and every week and untold week-ends for years on end to serve our community and its citizens – it doesn’t matter. The new mayor couldn’t care less.

With uncommon mean-spirited, selfserving and falsified methodology this new Mayor Diane Therrien simply announces she has found two people better qualified with more experience to replace Coun. Henry Clarke as deputy mayor and finance committee chairman and sends this fine man packing. No promised interest questionnaire, no promised interviews. No alternate appointments. One of these crony appointments has never seen the inside of a working council room but is rewarded with an appointment as second deputy mayor.” We need two now!

It is simply disgusting! Ralph L. De Groot, Denure Drive
