Market Hall hosts an Old-Time Christmas with fiddler Scott Woods
The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling champion will bring some old-time Christmas magic to Peterborough.
"We'll be playing Christmas music right from start to finish, "said Scott Woods, who performs Dec. 15 at Market Hall at 7 p.m.with his Old Time Christmas show.
He’ll be joined by his sister, Kendra Woods (herself a champion fiddler) for a two-hour show featuring traditional music, step-dancing, humour and trick fiddling, including somersaults.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children (age 6-12) and children 5 and under get in free. Tickets are available by calling Daniel at 613-398-1160.
Woods told Metroland Media’s Grimsby Lincoln News that one of his pet peeves is when a musician or group says they're going to do a Christmas show, they do two holiday songs and the rest of the performance is just their regular act. When his band does a Christmas show, it's 90 per cent Christmas, and maybe 10 per cent traditional Scott Woods Band music.
Earlier this year, Woods received a lifetime achievement award from the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Association.
Woods called the music they perform the "music of the people, " and said it's fun and happy music that people enjoy. It's also rooted in the country's history.
"It's the music the pioneers who built Canada listened to, " he said.
