Start the new year with first aid training and more

The new year is less than a month away, bringing new first aid classes from St. John Ambulance. There are several weekday sessions planned for January happening at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

Standard First Aid

The standard first aid course has 13 hours of first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Jan. 9 to Jan. 10; Jan. 16 to Jan 17; Jan 22 to Jan. 23 and Jan 30 to Jan. 31 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training with the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency First Aid

The emergency first aid course is completed in one day and provides basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Jan. 9.; Jan. 16; Jan. 22 and Jan. 30, also at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SJA also offers weekend classes at their facility in Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Standard First Aid

In January, there are standard first aid classes slated for Jan. 5 to Jan. 6; Jan. 12 to Jan 13; Jan. 19 to Jan. 20 and Jan. 26 to Jan 27. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Emergency First Aid

There are three weekend courses planned for January, happening Jan. 5; Jan. 12; Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Renew your training

If you need to update your first aid certificat­e, there is one renewal course set for Jan. 29 at the Lions centre. Hours are 8:30 to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., depending on the level.

Babysittin­g course

There are no babysittin­g courses planned for January but will return in February. All SJA first aid courses come with a certificat­e valid for three years. For more or to register, contact St. John Ambulance at 705-745-0331 or email them at peterborou­gh@on.sja.ca.

Christmas Open House & Bottle Drive The Peterborou­gh Humane Society hosts a Christmas Open House & Bottle Drive slated for Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Peterborou­gh Humane Society, 385 Lansdowne St. E.

Support the bottle drive by bringing alcoholic bottles, cans, and bags or drop in for some Christmas cheer and say hello to the animals in the care of Peterborou­gh Humane Society.
