Bird Count
The 67th Peterborough Christmas Bird Count (CBC), organized by the PFN, takes place all day Sunday. PFN members and friends are invited to take part in this longest running wildlife survey in Peterborough county.
”It is an excellent opportunity to learn about our winter birds and participate in the largest citizen science project,” states a release by the PFN.
The CBC is now in its 119th year with counts held all across Canada. Peterborough participants will cover an area contained within a circle with a diameter of 24 kilometers, centered on the intersection of Chemong Road and Sunset Boulevard. This total count area is divided into ten smaller areas with a team of participants assigned to each area. The areas to be covered include Chemong/Bridgenorth, Miller Creek/Selwyn, Lakefield/ Otonabee, Douro, Burnham, Stewart Hall/Landfill, the airport, Cavan Swamp, Jackson Park, and the Downtown.
To register for this Christmas birding tradition contact PFN member Martin Parker, the count compiler, at 705-745-4750 or mparker19@cogeco.ca. If you are unable to participate in one of the field parties you can still assist by registering your feeder and counting the birds which visit.

Participants will be split into a number of field parties that will meet at the end of the day to compile results. New participants are welcome.
