CHIEFS BACK IN FIRST AFTER 5-3 WIN

The Lakefield Chiefs are back in a first place tie in points following a 5-3 win over the North Kawartha Knights in Apsley on Saturday night.

The Knights (19-4-0-1) have played two less games than Lakefield (18-5-1-2) in the race for first in the PJHL Orr Division.

Dawson Turcotte’s second goal, 1:12 after the Knights tied it, gave Lakefield a 4-3 lead 6:45 into the third period. Ryan Shaughness­y added an insurance marker 7;01 later. Cole Ellis and Tarren Jank also scored for the Chiefs. Jeff Hawthorne had two assists with singles to Cole Robbins, Jesse Merrill and Adam Kitchen.

Ethan Coens, Trent Schutt and ex-Chief Matt Carroll scored for North Kawartha. Matthew Wilbee had two assists for the Knights with singles to Cole Arnold, Joe Crothers, Jesse Douglas and Elijah Brahaney.

The Chiefs outshot the Knights 46-30 with Michael Christie earning the win and ex-Chief Luke Miller taking the loss.

The Chiefs next action is 7:25 p.m. Tuesday when they host the Clarington Eagles at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre.
