City hires infrastructure and planning services commissioner
Kitchener facilities manager to replace Wayne Jackson
The city has a new commissioner of infrastructure and planning services.
Cynthia Fletcher was appointed Monday evening at City Hall. She starts on Jan. 18 to replace Wayne Jackson, who’s retiring Dec. 31 after 11 years on the job.
Fletcher wasn’t at the council meeting on Monday evening when her appointment was approved by council, but she thanked council in a video message.
“I’m so honoured to be joining the city of Peterborough,” she said. “Once I start in Peterborough, I intend to get out in our community and become engaged.”
Fletcher is currently the director of facilities management for the City of Kitchener and has worked at this job for eight years, according to a city staff report; on Monday evening, she was at a council meeting there.
Previously, she served two years as Kitchener’s interim executive director of infrastructure services.
Prior to that she worked for a decade at the Waterloo Region District School Board in project management.
Fletcher has 20 years of public sector experience in total, a report to council states.
She holds a master of engineering degree from the University of Toronto, in addition to two undergraduate degrees and a certi-
fication in social work.
The city’s cross-Canada recruitment process was led by the national executive search firm the Phelps Group.
The Phelps Groups conducted a first series of interviews, states the report, and a second interview with a select number of candidates was conducted by senior staff and also Coun. Lesley Parnell, Coun. Don Vassiliadis and Mayor Therrien (a councillor at the time).
In the staff report, city CAO Sandra Clancy states that the city is “thrilled” to welcome Fletcher because she’s a “proven leader”.
At City Hall on Monday, Coun. Dean Pappas thanked Jackson for his years of service.
“I’ve always found you accessible and easy to talk to, and you’ve always had the best interests of the city at heart,” said Pappas to Jackson. “So thank you for all your years at work.”
