A community arts studio has moved into its new home.

Creating Space is an inclusive art studio that fosters community resilience by making art, telling stories and learning.

It’s now located at the former St. Andrew’s United Church on Rubidge St., having moved from the John Howard Society.

Studio volunteers hold drop-in sessions and host workshops and special events.

There have been workshops in print making, collaging, lantern making, weaving, sewing and drumming, for example.

The studio is pay-what-you-can (supplies are included) and is open to everyone.

Creating Space is open for drop-ins on Monday from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 6 p.m.

Participants are to enter through the door in the parking lot, behind the church.

Volunteers and board members held an open house of the new space on Monday night.

As a nonprofit, the studio runs on donations. There’s currently a crowdfunding site for Creating Space on GoFundMe at ca.gofundme.com/CreatingSpacePtbo. It was launched in July and is up to $1,639 of its $8,000 goal. The funds will go to rent, utilities and insurance.

Volunteers have moved the studio four times since its inception last spring. It started at Seeds of Change, moved to John Howard Society, then to the SUP Shop on George Street and now to the former St. Andrew’s.

Since launching, more than 800 people have sat down at Creating Space to create art.
