New intersection layout is confusing

-

I wish to express my strong opposition to the new installation of a curb on Water Street, where George, Water and Sherbrooke streets all merge onto Water Street.

This was already one of the busiest and most congested corners in our city and it was chosen, for whatever reason, to eliminate the left lane and merge traffic (already merging from three streets) into one lane.

It is clear that people driving here are confused and timid about what to do at this congested intersection. I see no viable reason whatsoever for the installation of this traffic-congesting curb. Whose decision was this and what was the logic behind it — if there was any logic at all?

I have spoken with the public service department at City Hall, who transferred me to the engineering department, who then referred me to the traffic department. Apparently it was the result of an “environmental study.” Well, I believe this “study” should be re-studied. C. Smith, Peterborough
