Ottawa rink wins first wheelchair bonspiel

PCC hosts the first Sticks, Stones and Wheels Bonspiel

A team from Ottawa won the inaugural Sticks, Stones and Wheels Bonspiel, a wheelchair curling event, at the Peterborou­gh Curling Club on the weekend.

The gold medal was won by the Ottawa-based team of skip Jim Armstrong, vice Collinda Joseph, second Jon Thurston and lead Reid Mulligan.

They beat Team Rees 7-3 in the championsh­ip game to complete the two-day event with a 4-0 record.

Toronto-based Team Rees, which finished with a 2-2 record, consisted of skip Chris Rees, vice Jim Law, second Wayne Macdonald and lead Shauna Petrie.

London’s Team Reynen (1-3) placed third comprised of skip Shannon Wilcox, vice Tony Reynen, second Paul Grose and lead Sarah Benevides.

The Peterborou­gh Curling Club’s Team Bax (1-3) placed fourth. The team is comprised of skip Carl Bax, vice Anita Mellow, second Alec Denys and lead Dan Flint. They lost the bronze medal game 5-4 to Team Reynen.
