Peterborough one of Canada’s Top 10 safest places to drive
Peterborough was ranked 10th in Canada for the frequency of vehicle collisions in a new survey released Wednesday.
The survey by Allstate Canada found that Peterborough had a 4.6 per cent claims frequency per 100 vehicles for the period from 2008 to 2018.
The 2018 frequency of claims for Peterborough is a 14 per cent increase over the claims frequency 10 years ago, the survey found.
Hanmer, Ont. topped the survey as the safest place to drive out of 64 communities surveyed, while North York in Toronto was llast at 7.1 per cent, with a 37 per cent increase in the rate since a decade ago.
Among other survey findings:
• Sunday is the safest day to drive with the fewest number of collisions reported.
• The days leading up to Christmas have historically been the worst days to drive, with Dec. 23 consistently seeing the most collisions.
• Christmas Day continues to be the safest day to on the road, with the least number of collisions reported.
• Friday has been the worst day for driving across the country for the entire decade, continuously recording the highest number of collisions over other day.
