The region’s largest accounting firm is ringing in the new year with a new name.

Collins Barrow has changed its moniker to Baker Tilly.

The Charlotte St. firm was already affiliated with the international firm but wasn’t under the same name.

Executives announced the switchover Monday at Collins Barrow’s Peterborough office.

Mark Mooney, managing partner of Collins Barrow Kawarthas, said the name change will allow the firms to present a unified front.

“I think we felt we were short selling our firm by not having one common name,” Mooney said.

It’ll also allow Collins Barrow to use the resources of its global partners, which are located in 147 territories worldwide.

“We’re able to draw on that expertise in those jurisdictions so it increases our ability to deliver services from just Peterborough and the Kawarthas to national and international,” Mooney said.

Baker Tilly is one of the world’s top 10 accountancy networks and Collins Barrow has been the Canadian representative of Baker Tilly International since 2009.

Although there’ll be a new logo and new signage, that’s all that’ll change at the firm, Mooney said. The ownership structure stays the same and it’ll remain an independent Canadian business.

“We’re the exact same firm — we just have a new name.”

The new brand won’t change the firm’s local focus and they’re not merging or being acquired, he added.

Collins Barrow has offices in Peterborough and Lindsay and will soon have another in Cobourg, too.

The firm has 13 partners and about 85 associates.

Established in 1935, Collins Barrow was originally named Humpage Taylor McDonald.

In 2001, it joined the national firm Collins Barrow, a Canadian firm with offices from Halifax to Vancouver.

People can expect to see the firm’s new signage on its building in the spring.
