Sex assault charge laid

Following a police investigation, a Frontenac County teen has been arrested and charged with the sexual assault of a young person that allegedly occurred in Peterborough.

In November, city police received information about a sexual assault that took place in the Peterborough area in 2014. Police report that during the assault the accused also threatened the under 18 and knew each other.

The accused, now 17, attended the Peterborough police station on Friday and was arrested and charged with sexual assault on a person under 16 and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of a young person cannot be released.
