Kitchener fisherman found dead
Brian Tilbury, 47, was last seen ice fishing on Belmont Lake
A Kitchener man last seen ice fishing on Saturday on Belmont Lake was found dead Sunday.
Peterborough County OPP say the body of Brian Tilbury, 47, was found in the Crowe River area of Belmont Lake by OPP officers in a helicopter.
A team from the HavelockBelmont-Methuen Fire Department recovered the body, which will be taken to the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners in Toronto for a post-mortem examination.
The incident remains under investigation.
The OPP advise people on snowmobiles and ATVs to avoid lakes and rivers. If it can’t be avoided, police say in a release, check ice conditions beforehand, wear a floater suit, carry ice picks and make sure they are accessible.
Tilbury, 47, was last seen in the Miles of Memories area between 3:30 and 6 p.m. on Saturday. Police had earlier described him as a white male, five-foot-eight, with brown hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing dark ice-fishing gear with a camouflage design. He was driving a green ATV and wasn’t wearing a helmet.
