Curling for Community Care in Ennismore
Fundraising tournament will take place Feb. 16 and spaces are limited
Community Care will host Curling for Care on Feb. 16 at the Ennismore Curling Club, located at 555 Ennis Rd., Ennismore. This is a charity event to support the health and well-being of individuals, caregivers and communities. Programs and services available from Community Care Peterborough allow clients to maintain their independence and dignity. The cost to register is $40 per curler or $160 per team.
There will be two games with six ends each with a chili and soup lunch provided. The first draw will be at 9 a.m. and the second will be at 10:45 a.m. and all are welcome, including beginners. Brooms and sliders will be provided, so all you need are clean indoor shoes. There will be raffles and other games to enjoy. Spaces are limited. Soldier On Bonspiel
The Ennismore Curling Club is holding a fundraising bonspiel in support of Soldier On and is looking for curlers and non-curlers to participate. The bonspiel will be February 23, and the day will include games with six ends each. Lunch and dinner will be provided, as well as a special official ceremony honouring the Canadian military.
There will be volunteers available to help non-curlers participate in the games. Soldier On programs support serving members and veterans to overcome physical and mental injuries by reintroducing them to physical activities and sports. They fund, through private donations, sporting camps and provide grants for adaptive sporting equipment to their participants. To register as a team or individual, phone Sharon at 705-292-7402.
Lakefield Lions Club
The Lakefield District Lions Club will host a Valentine’s Day Dance Fundraiser on February 16 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street. The dance will feature the True Confessions Band playing music from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.ca or in person with cash only at Happenstance Books & Yarns in Lakefield.
Bridgenorth United Church
Bridgenorth United Church will hold a Spaghetti Dinner on February 2 as part of Polarfest weekend. It will feature musical entertainment with the Tarnished Angels and other guest musicians and singers. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and tickets for adults will be $10, and tickets for children ages 7 and under will be $5.
Selwyn Public Library
Starting January 24, 2019 the Lakefield Library will have a monthly Coffee House at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Room. Come share your talent! Artists, poets, musicians and storytellers are all welcome.
You can read work by another person or work of your own. It will be on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. from January (except the fourth Thursday in January) to May 2019. Winter Walking Drop-In
Tie up the laces on your running shoes and take advantage of the winter walking drop-in at the Ennismore Community Centre, located at 553 Ennis Road. The doors are open for residents to enjoy an indoor walking space during the winter months at no charge. The drop-in will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. excluding holidays.
