Soil and Crop Associatio­n holds AGM in Cambray

Trent University representa­tives to speak at event

The Victoria Soil and Crop Improvemen­t Associatio­n AGM will be held at Fenelon Township Hall, Cambray Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.

Membership is $20, lunch is $20 or both for $30. Bruce McKeown will speak about the Iowa trip; Christine O’Reilly, OMAFRA Forage and Pasture Specialist on grazing cover crops; Matt Porter, Trent University on the Tier2 Cover Crop project, “Regenerati­ve Agricultur­e Microbes and Insect Interactio­ns in Action” and Ian McDonald, OMAFRA on compaction.

Curling

Youth curling takes place at the Omemee Curling Centre, James St. each Sunday, 1-3 pm, $5 per person. No experience or equipment is needed. Youth should bring a pair of clean running shoes.

Lions

The Fowlers Corners Lions had a very busy December, participat­ing in the Omemee and Millbrook Santa Claus parades, carolling at Springdale Nursing Home and handing out poinsettia­s to the residents afterwards. In addition to supporting the Omemee Lions fundraiser for Jen Lavalle, Fowlers Corners held a Christmas Trivia Night, collecting items for the Omemee Food bank. Kristin Nelles and team won the trophy.

The club is in the midst of planning the 2019 Cruise Nights held every Thursday from midMay to mid-September at the Barn as well as this year’s Dog Guide Walk and Fireworks sales.

Community care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is necessary and can be made by calling 705-879-4100 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St.W., Lindsay. Clinics are Mondays and Tuesdays.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e.

Exercises in partnershi­p with Closing the Gap Healthcare are held at 8 James St. Mondays and Thursdays at Trinity United Church. Call the office for details of times.

Exercises for seniors (SAGES) will be held at Dunsford United Church, 1981 Sturgeon Rd., Wednesdays, 10 am and at Victoria Armouries, 210 Kent St. W., 11 am.

Community Care along with Hospice Services coordinate­s many different support groups. All groups are free of charge and welcome any resident of City of Kawartha Lakes. Upcoming groups include the following:

Living Through Loss Family Program for children, teens and parents or caregivers who have suffered the death of a family member, Jan. 23, 6-7:30 pm, 55 Mary St. W., 705-879-4123.
