PETES FANS CHASE $5K 50/50 PRIZE
Longtime volunteer Betty Nelson sells 50/50 raffle tickets with a $5,000 jackpot draw supporting the Petes Education Fund as the Peterborough Petes hosted the North Bay Battalion on Saturday at the Memorial Centre.
Barry McInnis, of Fenelon Falls, won the largest 50-50 draw in Peterborough Petes history Saturday.
The Petes Education Fund guaranteed a $5,000 jackpot to see if it might generate more interest. It grew to $7,835 more than double Thursday’s jackpot of more than $3,000. It helped a season high 3,772 fans were in attendance aided by visiting teams from the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament.
Ex-Petes on the move
Jake Partridge, released by the Petes prior to the Jan. 10 OHL trade deadline, signed as a free agent with his hometown Barrie Colts. Partridge left the Petes over a lack of ice time.
After being traded by the London Knights to Barrie, ex-Pete Matt Timms opted to join the University of Guelph Gryphons hockey program rather than report to the Colts.
Little’s mentor
Newly acquired Pete Michael Little acknowledged Peterborough native Owen Tippett was a mentor when they were Mississauga Steelheads’ teammates.
When Tippett was traded to Saginaw Little Tweeted, “Best of luck to my brother @TippettOwen in Saginaw. Thank you for taking me under your wing in my first year and being one of the best role models for the last 2.5 years. Hell of a player and an even better teammate. Gonna miss you bro.”
Stillman milestone
Riley Stillman struck for his first professional goal on Saturday helping the Springfield Thunderbirds defeat the Providence Bruins 5-3. The 20-year-old from Peterborough has nine points (1-8–9) through 27 games this season.
Roster notes
Zach Gallant missed a second straight game due to a sore ankle. He’s considered day-to-day. The Petes were once again short one skater with Liam Kirk also away at the World Junior Division IIA Championships in Estonia where he was named Britain’s captain.
