Chiefs slip to second with third straight loss

The Lakefield Hendren Funeral Homes Chiefs slipped to second place in the PJHL Orr Division after a third straight loss Sunday night to the host Amherstvie­w Jets. Joey Mayer’s goal 1:50 into overtime lifted the Jets to a 4-3 win.

The North Kawartha Knights edged the Clarington Eagles 3-2 to move into a tie with the Chiefs atop the Orr Division with 52 points but North Kawartha holds three games in hand. The Uxbridge Bruins, who visit the Chiefs at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, are four points behind Lakefield, also with three games in hand. Zac Treen’s goal with 4:27 left in the third period forced overtime.

Cole Robbins and Carson Hartwick also scored. Tarren Jank had two assists with singles to Evan Marlowe, Ryan Shaughness­y and Robbins. Isaac Pascoal, Carter Clarke and Hunter Chapman also scored for Amherstvie­w. The Chiefs outshot the Jets 42-32 with Jacob Evans earning the win in goal and Michael Christie taking the loss.
