Book paints picture of artists from The Land Between
The Artists of Kawartha features work from Buckhorn and the Kawartha Lakes area
The Artists of Kawartha, published by Andrea Hillo, is one of a series of books showcasing artists and their art from various geographical areas. This one showcases the exceptional works of the exceptional artists who live in the Kawarthas, The Land Between, and displayed their work at the Colborne Street Gallery in Fenelon Falls in October and November.
The image on the front is a Michael Dumas oil painting. This painting introduces a collection of art of 32 artists living in the Kawarthas all with different styles and different subjects and the use of different medium. In the foreword of the book Dumas writes that the distinctive varied features of natural life in The Land Between – volcanic rock and sedimentary bedrock, crow and raven, moose and Canada jay – is also descriptive of the varied work of artists in the area .For example, local artist Henry Fernandes produces whimsical fantastical images of life versus another local artist, Kelly Dodge, who creates realistic life images.
Eugenie Fernandes’ art with her colors of yellow, blue and green reflects stories she has written and has illustrated for others and is included in the book. Sandy Cline’s stone sculptures are part of the visual display. Oil paintings by Eddie LePage portraying the bond between people and the natural world are included. Joan Tovey captures wildflowers and songbirds in her watercolours and can be seen in the book. Brenda Little uses acrylic and watercolour to depict realistic scenes evoking peace and wonder. They, too, were on display at the exhibit and are in the book.
Editor Leonard Pizzy states that the purpose of the book is to honor artists and bring their work to the attention of a wider audience.
The book is available in various places. There are copies at the Peterborough Art Gallery, Jennifer’s Hair Design in Buckhorn, and Dana the Book Lady in Fenelon Falls, 705-886-2665. An email to the writer could possibly procure another copy from a private source.

Thank you
The Municipality of Trent Lakes Hamper Committee would like to thank everyone for their help with the 2018 Christmas Hamper. The Christmas of 26 families was brightened.
Marty Lou Bowles, committee member, says it was heartwarming to see the donations of money, toys and food that were given for this very special event. They are also thankful for the newspapers which placed announcements in their papers and for the community businesses, real estate offices, and community supporters at large who supported the campaign.
A special thank you goes to Buckhorn Foodland for the extra mile they went to make sure everything needed was available for the hampers. Bowles writes that “Foodland really showed us how much this community means to them. So once again we thank you. From all of us, to all of yTohu , hnaveewaswpoanpd fuisl 2019.”
