Senior dies after being struck by vehicle

OPP investigat­ing cause of crash that killed woman

A 73-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle while walking in the middle of a road late Friday night just north of the city.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday on County Road 19 near Chemong Road after the woman was hit by a westbound vehicle, according to Peterborou­gh County OPP.

Angela Tobin, 73, of Peterborou­gh, died at the scene, police said.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners Complex in Toronto, the OPP reported.

No one else was injured, police said.

County Road 19 between Chemong Road and Hilliard Street was closed for hours while OPP officers trained in collision reconstruc­tion measured and documented the scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigat­ion.

The OPP was kept busy at other road fatalities over the weekend.

A woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident near

Perth on Saturday just after noon, Lanark County OPP reported.

The crash happened on Macphails Road between Drumond Concession 2 and Tennyson Road just north of Perth.

McKenzie Rebus, 20, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved. The male driver did not sustain serious injuries, while a 10-month-old baby in the vehicle was uninjured. The female driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatenin­g injuries, OPP reported.

Further east, a man died after a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 7 at Dwyer Hill Road in Beckwith Township, west of Ottawa.

Highway 7 was closed for several hours after the incident, which happened at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday. A man and woman in the vehicle were taken to hospital, where the man died and the woman remains with non-life-threatenin­g injuries.

The investigat­ions into the weekend’s crashes are ongoing, the OPP reported.
