Explore local history at Christ Church Museum

Christ Church Community Museum is open for the season. Volunteer guides will welcome visitors every day from 1 to 4 p.m. until Sept. 2.

The museum has new display cases, and this season’s exhibits include The Great Migration,

Chemung Lions

Chemung Lake Lions will be providing free vision Screening for children on Saturday at the Anglican Church in Buckhorn at the Rock the Locks Festivitie­s. They will be open 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Community Care Room in the Church.

Selwyn Public Library

Saturday will be the first Read a Book on a Bench Day at the Lakefield Library. Did you know that there are more than 50 benches on the Lakefield Trail? On Saturday, the Lakefield Trail Committee and the Selwyn Public Library are presenting a special event called Read a Book on a Bench Day. All are welcome to bring a book, head out onto the trail, and find a comfy spot to read. There will also be special guests doing readings at the Little Libraries around the village. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Lakefield Library, located at 8 Queen St., to get a map and head out onto the trail. There will be refreshmen­ts available in the Centennial Room at noon. The Selwyn Public Library will have a mobile library at the Lakefield Farmer’s Market on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome to browse and check out items, register for a library card, enjoy a free kids craft, play with LEGO, and there will be a farmer’s market scavenger hunt. The Lakefield Farmer’s Market is located in Isabel Morris Park.

The Bridgenort­h Library will have a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 30 (weather permitting). All sales are by donation, and proceeds support the Selwyn Public Library. The sale will be at 826 Ward St. in Bridgenort­h (outside the OPP station).

Harrison Family Reunion

The 92nd annual Harrison family reunion and potluck picnic will be held on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the farm of Roger and Kathy Kidd, located at 832 Fifth Line, Selwyn.

All descendant­s of Richard and Jane Harrison, who were early settlers in Smith Township, are invited to attend this reunion which has been held continuous­ly since 1927.

Bridgenort­h United Church

There will be a concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Bridgenort­h United Church featuring acts inspired by Elvis and Patsy Cline. Garry Wesley will perform his award-winning tribute including a mix of well-known Elvis songs and gospel. Tickets $20 at the door or at the church in advance.
