Peterborough man wins two casino jackpots this year

After buying a car with the winnings of his $20,000 jackpot from February, Robert Billinghurst isn’t sure what he’s going to do with the $50,000 slots jackpot he won on Friday from Casino Rama.

“It’s been a good year,” said Billinghurst, raising his cheque for $50,307.

The Peterborough man decided to go to Casino Rama after a weekend trip to the U.S. fell through due to a dental surgery, he said.

“Because I cancelled the trip I thought I would go up to Casino Rama,” Billinghurst said.

He doesn’t go to Casino Rama often, only about two times a year, he said, and he was only there for a couple hours. It was his fifth round on the machine when it declared he had won the jackpot and spectators began to crowd around him.

This is Billinghurst’s second run of good luck this year, after he won $20,000 in February at Shorelines Casino Peterborough, he said.

His plan so far is to live off the money for the next few years while sharing a portion with his family.
