First aid classes available in East City
Kids aren’t the only ones heading back to school. Learn first aid skills through first aid programs presented by St. John Ambulance. In Ashburnham, classes take place at the Peterborough Lions community centre, 347 Burnham St.
There are limited spaces in each class. Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Sept. 4 to Sept. 5; Sept. 11 to 12; Sept. 18 to 19; and Sept. 24 to 25, all at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training and includes training for adult, child and infant CPR. This class has the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are only four to six spots available. Cost is $159 for level A and $179 for level C.
Emergency first aid
The emergency first aid course provides 6.5 hours of basic first aid training with CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) procedures.
Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Sept. 4; Sept. 11; Sept. 18; and Sept. 24, all at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are four spots available in each class. Cost is $110 for level A and $120 for level C.
SJA offers weekend and evening sessions at its facility at Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.
Weekend dates for standard first aid are Sept. 7 to 8; Sept. 14 to 15; Sept. 21 to 22 and Sept. 28 to 29 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.
Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for Sept. 7; Sept. 14; Sept. 21; and Sept. 28 at Applewood.
Standard first aid renewal
If you need to recertify your training, there is a standard first aid renewal slated for Sept. 26 at the Lions centre. Cost is $110 for level A and $120 for level C, and renews your certificate for three years.
Babysitting Basics is one day class set for Aug. 29, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Lions centre. There are several spots left.
The program is ideal for youths 10 to 14 years old and is designed to teach babysitting, leadership, first-aid and more in a fun, informative way.
Students learn how to care for themselves, infants, toddlers, and older children, what questions to ask parents, how to give first aid and CPR, what to do in emergencies and more.
The course combines activity book sessions, role-playing and hands-on exercises to teach essential life-saving skills and build confidence.
Cost is $69 and includes a workbook and a babysitter certificate when they pass the course.
All first aid training is valid for three years.
