First aid classes avail­able in East City

Kids aren’t the only ones head­ing back to school. Learn first aid skills through first aid pro­grams pre­sented by St. John Am­bu­lance. In Ash­burn­ham, classes take place at the Peter­bor­ough Lions com­mu­nity cen­tre, 347 Burnham St.

There are lim­ited spa­ces in each class. Classes in stan­dard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Sept. 4 to Sept. 5; Sept. 11 to 12; Sept. 18 to 19; and Sept. 24 to 25, all at the Lions cen­tre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stan­dard first aid with level C CPR has an ex­tra hour of train­ing and in­cludes train­ing for adult, child and in­fant CPR. This class has the same dates and lo­ca­tions. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There are only four to six spots avail­able. Cost is $159 for level A and $179 for level C.

Emer­gency first aid

The emer­gency first aid course pro­vides 6.5 hours of ba­sic first aid train­ing with CPR and au­to­mated ex­ter­nal de­fib­ril­la­tor (AED) pro­ce­dures.

Emer­gency first aid classes with level A CPR hap­pen Sept. 4; Sept. 11; Sept. 18; and Sept. 24, all at the Lions Cen­tre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emer­gency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There are four spots avail­able in each class. Cost is $110 for level A and $120 for level C.

SJA of­fers week­end and evening ses­sions at its fa­cil­ity at Ap­ple­wood Manor, 1500 Lans­downe St. W.

Week­end dates for stan­dard first aid are Sept. 7 to 8; Sept. 14 to 15; Sept. 21 to 22 and Sept. 28 to 29 at Ap­ple­wood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Week­end cour­ses in emer­gency first aid are slated for Sept. 7; Sept. 14; Sept. 21; and Sept. 28 at Ap­ple­wood.

Stan­dard first aid re­newal

If you need to re­cer­tify your train­ing, there is a stan­dard first aid re­newal slated for Sept. 26 at the Lions cen­tre. Cost is $110 for level A and $120 for level C, and re­news your cer­tifi­cate for three years.

Babysit­ting course

Babysit­ting Ba­sics is one day class set for Aug. 29, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Lions cen­tre. There are sev­eral spots left.

The pro­gram is ideal for youths 10 to 14 years old and is de­signed to teach babysit­ting, lead­er­ship, first-aid and more in a fun, in­for­ma­tive way.

Stu­dents learn how to care for them­selves, in­fants, tod­dlers, and older chil­dren, what ques­tions to ask par­ents, how to give first aid and CPR, what to do in emer­gen­cies and more.

The course com­bines ac­tiv­ity book ses­sions, role-play­ing and hands-on ex­er­cises to teach es­sen­tial life-sav­ing skills and build con­fi­dence.

Cost is $69 and in­cludes a work­book and a babysit­ter cer­tifi­cate when they pass the course.

All first aid train­ing is valid for three years.
