Community helped make U19 tournament a success
On behalf of the 2019 World Women’s U19 Championship Organizing Committee, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to the citizens of Peterborough, who fully supported our successful and exciting international event. We were overwhelmed but not surprised by the number of Peterborough citizens who not only attended the games at Trent University and Fleming College but also volunteered their time during the event. The teams appreciated your support!
No event of this size is successful without the valued work of the many volunteers who gave up their free time to help out during this 10-day event. Moreover, the love and support of our own Canadian team was impressive and unforgettable!
In addition to many of the citizens who volunteered, there were also numerous acts of kindness directed toward some of the world teams which needed support — mainly Kenya and Jamaica.
When these teams needed support, the caring people of Peterborough and Stoney Lake stepped up and donated, not only financially but with personal items, as well. It was incredible to witness these caring acts of kindness, which symbolized our event — the coming together of countries.
In closing, special thanks goes out to Fleming College, Trent University and the city of Peterborough recreation department for being excellent hosts and providing outstanding facilities for more than 1,200 female lacrosse players and the teams they represented. Furthermore, we could not have organized this large event without the financial support from the city of Peterborough and the Ontario government. We are very grateful of your kind gesture!
Finally, our deep appreciation and thanks to our organizing committee. Your commitment, time and passion dedicated to this event was impressive and will never be forgotten. Fred Blowes and Cheryl MacNeill, cochairs, 2019 World Women’s U19 Lacrosse Championship
