Taste of the Gardens chefs ready to serve up lunch for a cause

Annual fundraiser always a hit, and so is the outing to Come From Away

The annual and much anticipate­d Taste of the Gardens takes place Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Princess Gardens Retirement Residence, 300 Charlotte St., with 100 per cent of proceeds going to Kawartha Food Share.

This signature soup and sandwich lunch event features The Gardens of Peterborou­gh Retirement residences seasonal menus and food samples.

Dining services suppliers and dining staff will serve the menu samplings.

There will also be a raffle for supplier donated gift baskets and an assortment of baked treats will be available for purchase.

Murder Mystery

A murder mystery dinner theatre takes place Oct. 26 at Mark Street United Church, 90 Hunter Street E.

Co-sponsored by Order of the Eastern Star Peterborou­gh Chapter 161 and Mark Street United Church, the event is a fundraiser in support of the YES Shelter for Youth and Families.

The event will include a chicken dinner catered by Jack’s Family Restaurant in Peterborou­gh. The play will be performed by an amateur cast of Eastern Star Members.

The doors open at 4:15 p.m. and the play begins at 4:45 p.m. sharp.

Come out for an enjoyable evening where you can eat well, have fun, solve the mystery and support the YES Shelter.

Elton Rohn Concert

There are still tickets available for Elton Rohn, the Best of Elton John, a fundraisin­g concert in support of the YWCA Peterborou­gh Haliburton Crossroads Shelter.

The tribute show, featuring Ron Camilleri as Elton and a full 11-piece band, string quartet and a grand piano, takes place Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Showplace Performanc­e Centre, 290 George St. N.

Bazaar Space

Activity Haven has vendor spots available for their Christmas Bazaar that takes place Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This well attended and much anticipate­d bazaar will feature more than 50 vendors, as well as a large bake room and the canteen will be open for breakfast, lunch and treats.

Vendor spots cost $25. If you would like to book a spot call Michelle in the Activity Haven office at 705 876-1670. Activity Haven is located at 180 Barnardo Ave.

Come From Away

This trip just keeps selling out! Activity Haven has added a fourth Haven Express bus trip to Toronto’s Elgin Theatre Nov. 3 to see the highly acclaimed musical “Come From Away.” The bus leaves Activity Haven at 9:30 a.m., arriving in Toronto in time for Sunday Brunch at the Hot House Restaurant prior to the 2 p.m. show. The bus returns to Peterborou­gh at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $215 per person and includes your brunch. Call 705-876-1670 for more informatio­n.
