Keene’s new Mad Poet Society meets at old church theatre
New group takes a family-friendly approach to poetry and performance
I never thought that I would see a Mad Poet Society in Otonabee. But it is so and here’s the deal. Do not miss the experience. It will be surreal.
It is family-friendly, children first. From 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays they practise verse. They do it upstairs in the old church theatre, where costumes and games add to their creative nature.
From 6 to 9 p.m. the main theatre is open, where grown-up poets meet and hear their words spoken. While children play upstairs to their hearts’ content, downstairs the bar is open, giving big poets a little encouragement.
The after school session from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is for children aged 5 to 13 and costs $5 per hour. Contact Ida Brown of The Keene Centre for the Arts at ida.blwgd@outlook.com for more info.
