Lakefield library offers geocaching intro

Have you heard of geocaching? The Selwyn Public Library is offering an introducti­on to this fun activity that is suitable for all ages. It involves using GPS to find items hidden by others, and to leave something new for the next geocachers to come along. All are welcome to attend a free informatio­n workshop presented by Tammy Sikma from the County of Peterborou­gh and learn about an adventurou­s activity you can enjoy anywhere.

The workshop will be Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the Centennial Room at the Lakefield branch. If you have any questions, email kgardiner@mypublicli­brary.ca or phone the Lakefield Library at 705-652-8623. Registrati­on for the workshop is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca under Programs.

The Ennismore Library is offering an interactiv­e presentati­on entitled “How Well Do You Know Dementia?” Sarah Cook of the Alzheimer Society of Peterborou­gh, Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land and Haliburton will present 10 questions that address the myths and realities of dementia. It will touch on the warning signs of dementia, key facts and informatio­n, as well as some of the most common questions that people have about dementia. The workshop will be located in the Optimist Hall (lower level of the Ennismore Library) at 1 p.m. on Oct. 28. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca. Lakefield Historical Society

The Lakefield Historical Society meeting will be held at the Lakefield legion at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24. Please note this is a week earlier than usual due to Halloween. Join the society for an evening to honour area veterans and commemorat­e the Lakefield War Veteran’s Project. The evening will also include a tribute to the late Don Webster, past president of the Lakefield Historical Society. Everyone is welcome to come and bring a friend and share in this memorial.

Lakefield Legion

The Lakefield Legion Branch 77 presents its next Fabulous Friday Night Dinner, which will be turkey with all the trimmings, at 5:30 p.m. this Friday. Tickets are $15 in advance (by Wednesday prior) or $18 at the door. Reserve your advance ticket by calling 705-652-7988.

Just a reminder to legion members that it is early bird season. From now until Nov. 30, your annual membership is $50. After that date it increases to $60. New members are always welcome! Help support your local legion and enjoy its many member benefits.

Bridgenort­h United Church

Bridgenort­h United Church will celebrate its 177th anniversar­y on Oct. 20 with a worship service followed by a pot luck and Scottish dancing. All are welcome.

Free public skating back for 2019

The Township of Selwyn is offering free public skating at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre on Saturdays from noon to 1 p.m. (Oct. 12, 19 and 26). There will also be free public skating at the Ennismore Community Centre on Sundays from 1 to 2 p.m. (Oct. 13, 20 and 27). The free public skating is supported by local business sponsors.

Christ Church Community Museum

Christ Church Community Museum will be hosting the annual fashion show on Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall in St. John the Baptist Church in Lakefield. There will be dessert before the show that will feature clothes from Style Boutique. The cost for admission is $15 and tickets are available at Happenstan­ce Books & Yarns in Lakefield.
