Three shows open at local art gallery
Exhibits include exploring modern life through sculpture, digital images
Three new exhibitions opened this weekend at the Art Gallery of Peterborough.
“Enough, is enough, is enough” is an exhibition of works by artist Michelle Bellemare. In these works, familiar materials are modified into sculptural pieces, and according to the artist “explore emotional and physical vulnerability in relation to the demands of contemporary life.” One of the pieces on display is titled Retreat and is the sculpture of a power bar, with the switch in the off position and curled up in a gesture signalling a body pushed beyond its physical limits.
A second exhibition, titled “Living for the Fame,” is an ongoing and text-based art installation by Chris Ironside that explores the currency of gay images. Many images from Instagram, Tumblr and other social media platforms are typically consumed casually in endless feeds. In this exhibition, they are presented as delicate framed drawings in the formal space of the gallery.
The exhibition titled “Hall of Fall” features works from the Gallery’s permanent collection and is curated by Chris Ironside.
All three exhibitions will be on view until Jan. 5. The Art Gallery of Peterborough is located at 250 Crescent St. and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, please call 705-7439179 or visit agp.on.ca.
