Handguns come with extensive checks and protections
A book that I would bet money on that Justin Trudeau has never read is the RCMP “Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.” It can be purchased for $20. Anyone who wants to purchase a handgun must first take a two-day restricted firearms course for $145.
Once the course is passed, they must fill out an application with the RCMP. They must have two guarantors. They must give marital status and signature of spouse. It will take two to three months to get your licence.
All safe storage rules must be followed as with hunting rifles. The only place the handgun can be used is at a registered gun club. The annual fee is between $600 and $800.
The police must be notified of the route taken from your home to the gun club. A person cannot deviate from this route. If you change residences the RCMP must be notified.
When a gun is purchased, there is a waiting period of a few weeks before you can pick it up. At this time another background check is carried out by the RCMP.
Ammunition cannot be purchase without a firearms certificate.
As far as the number of guns stolen from private owners, the police have admitted the numbers are unreliable.
