$650K boost for new canoe museum
New facility’s archives and archives workroom to be named after BMO Financial Group
BMO Financial Group has made a $650,000 donation to the Canadian Canoe Museum, to be used to fund the museum’s proposed new 85,000square-foot facility near the Lift Lock.
Part of the new museum will be named for the financial institution, the museum announced Friday.
The museum’s archives and archives workroom will be named the BMO Financial Group Research and Knowledge Centre.
The space will be a reference library holding the museum’s growing collection of rare books, maps and archival materials, as well as film and video and recorded oral histories.
There’s no space like it in the current museum on Monaghan Road.
The museum is continuing a $65-million capital campaign to build the project, with financial support from municipal, provincial and federal governments.
The W. Garfield Weston Foundation has provided $7.5 million, with other major philanthropic donations as well.
