Peterborough Legion Track Club runners posted strong results at the first Lakefield College School cross country meet on Tuesday. Thomas A. Stewart’s Anna May won the junior girls race and set a course record, followed by classmate Nadiya Linde-Elmhurst. “I’ve been quite surprised at how well she responded from her recent illness,” said coach Matt Melo. “But then she is a tough competitor.” The senior girls race was also won in record time by Adam Scott’s Molly Strain who won by almost two minutes in a strong field. St. Peter’s Audrey McCarthy was third. “Although all cross country races are exhibition, club athletes representing their schools are rounding into shape,” Melo said. In senior boys action, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Ian Dafoe, a pole vaulter ranked third in Canada, showed his all-round athleticism with a bronze medal performance over the six-kilometre test.
