A movie that’s currently being filmed in Peterborough will feature Trent University and the Peterborough Rowing Club.

Shooting of “The Novice” began Tuesday at the Peterborough Rowing Club, which is along the Otonabee River, across from Trent.

The film tells the story of a college freshman who joins her university’s cutthroat rowing team and undertakes an obsessive journey to make the top varsity boat, according to Variety, an entertainment business news magazine.

Isabelle Fuhrman, who plays the lead role, learned to row last month, said Carol Love, Rowing Canada Aviron hub coach.

Fuhrman, 22, is best known for her work in “The Hunger

Games,” in which she played Clove, and in “Orphan,” a horror film in which she was cast as Esther.

Also starring in the film is model/actress Dilone and Amy Forsyth, who hails from Stouffville.

Forysth most recently appeared in Amazon’s “Beautiful Boy” and previously starred in NBC’s “Rise” and Hulu’s “The Path.”

The movie is also casting local female rowers as extras, along with some rowers from Toronto, too.

Furthermore, James Dyer, lead coach for Trent and the Peterborough Rowing Club, is helping with production along the waterway, Love said.

Filming at the club is expected to last about a week, after which the movie crew skips to the other side of the river to shoot inside Trent’s campus.

The flick will be director Lauren Hadaway’s debut feature.

She has a history of working in sound production, having worked on “Transformers: Age of Extinction” “Pacific Rim” and “Unbroken,” for example.

“The Novice” is the second movie over the last two months that’s been shot in the city.

In September, a scene for the Netflix movie “Awake” was filmed on Little Lake.

It starred Gina Rodriguez, who’s the star of the show “Jane the Virgin.”
