CAMPBELLFORD — Break out the doughnuts, Dooher’s Bakery in Campbellford is Canada’s Sweetest Bakery for the second year in a row.

It’s “an incredible feeling,” owner Cory Dooher stated in a release.

“As a fourth-generation bakery, we know the support of our local community is key to our success and we cannot thank everyone enough for voting for us again this year.

“My grandparents started the bakery 70 years ago with just two little wood-burning ovens and today we have grown to a staff of more than 30 — I know they would be incredibly proud of this recognition and where we are today.”

More than 1,200 bakeries across the U.S. and Canada participated in the competitions Dawn Food, a global bakery manufacturer and ingredient supplier, held in the two countries.

Sweet Crunch Bakeshop of

New Hampshire earned top spot in the United States.

More than 1.4 million votes were cast online and via text between July 1 and Sept. 30.

Dave Rhoades, North America vice-president of marketing for Dawn Foods, thanked all the bakeries that took part in the contest and he congratulated the two national winners, as well as the state and provincial category winners.

“Each and every day, we are inspired by your hard work and commitment to making life’s sweetest moments even sweeter,” he said.

“For nearly a century, it’s been our long-standing commitment to deliver new ways to help grow your business. These contests, which keep bakers top of mind with customers during the voting period, are just one way we deliver.”

This was the third year for the competition.

Other provincial winners for the sweetest doughnut shop, sweetest cake/cupcake and sweetest full-line bakery are posted online at sweetestbakeryincanada.com.

Both Sweet Crunch Bakeshop and Dooher’s Bakery will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to participate in a workshop with Dawn’s senior bakery application chef, Melissa Trimmer,

a certified executive pastry chef.

During the sessions, each bakery will create custom bakery items and learn about the industry’s latest trends to incorporate new ideas into their offerings, according to a release from Dawn Foods.
