Stan McBride Jr. sentenced to 7 years
75-year-old son of former mayor had pleaded guilty to 1980s sex assaults
Peterborough resident Stan McBride Jr. has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison.
“This was a very difficult day for everybody,” one of McBride’s victims said Thursday from outside the Superior Court of Justice in Pembroke. “There are lots of tears here. It was very hard to listen to.”
A publication ban protects the identity of McBride’s victims.
In July, McBride pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault and three counts of administer a noxious substance.
According to court records, the Peterborough resident administered a noxious substance and attempted to sexually assault 11 victims between 1980 and 1986 at a seasonal property west of Barry’s Bay.
On Thursday, seven of the 11 victims were in the courtroom. All of his victims entered victim impact statements, while four read them into the record.
“I was a gullible teenager when you took advantage of me,” one victim said, adding he still has trust issues. “I trusted you enough to take you home and introduce you to my parents. The thought of this sickens me.”
The 75-year-old was first charged in 2016 with attempted sexual assault and administering a noxious substance in a 1983 incident involving a 15year-old boy, but more victims came forward, leading to 18 historical sexual assault charges.
Assistant Crown attorney Teresa James sought a sentence of eight to 10 years while McBride’s lawyer, Dave McFadden, asked for between four and six years.
“You are now an old man, but you must face the consequences for what you did to me and so many others,” a victim said.
McBride is the son of former Peterborough mayor Stan McBride.
