Monsef beat Skinner by 3,043 votes
Peterborough-Kawartha Liberal MP Maryam Monsef’s margin of victory in Monday’s election has increased slightly from what was originally thought.
In preliminary results that came out in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, Monsef had defeated Conservative challenger Michael Skinner by 2,883 votes.
But in validated final results released Thursday by Elections Canada, the margin of victory increased to 3,043 votes.
Elections Canada has also revealed how many rejected ballots were cast in the area ridings.
In Peterborough-Kawartha, more ballots — 448 — were spoiled than were cast combined for two of the candidates; independent Robert Bowers and Stop Climate Change party leader Ken Ranney.
Northumberland-Peterborough South had 484 rejected ballots, Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock had 413 rejected ballots and Hastings-Lennox and Addington had 352 rejected ballots.
