The Peterborough Major Bantam AA Petes captured the Justin Williams Tournament championship last weekend in Cobourg.

The team got through the round-robin undefeated with solid play by Yianni Karkoulas and Keith Birkhof in net.

They found themselves in the championship game Sunday afternoon against the home team Northumberland Nighthawks.

After going down 2-0 early in the game, Birkhof found his rhythm in the net and didn’t let anything else by him.

The rest of the team rebounded with five straight goals to win the game 5-2. Goal scorers were Jack Crawford, Jordan Lemoire, Tom Darling, Nick Tripp and Erik Unger.

Lucas Desautel had two assists, while Brendan Marino, Cohen Bell, Crawford, Darling and Tripp also had assists.

The tourney results improved the Major Bantam AA Petes’ record on the season to 13-4-3.

Next up is a home-and-home series with North Durham this weekend. They will then compete in the Capital Classic in Ottawa on Nov. 8.
