Guryev to get more ice time by playing for Muskies
The Peterborough Petes reassigned rookie defenceman Artem Guryev to the OJHL’s Lindsay Muskies on Friday.
Guryev, a six-foot-three, 207pound, 2003-born Russian native, was selected in the second round, 22nd overall in the 2019 OHL draft from the Toronto Minor Midget AAA Marlboros.
He has appeared in six games with the maroon and white this season registering two assists, two penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating.
He made his Muskies debut on Friday night but will continue to practise daily with the Petes.
“For younger players the opportunity to play in games is crucial to their continued development, and this provides Artem with that opportunity,” said Petes GM Mike Oke.
“He’ll be able to stay sharp by getting into games in Lindsay and will remain involved in daily activities with the Petes.”
Oke also called up 2003-born defenceman Josh Kavanagh from the Major Midget AAA Petes to accompany them this weekend on a northern road trip. He’ll make his OHL debut Saturday night against his hometown Sudbury Wolves. The Petes also play the North Bay Battalion.
Kavanagh was the Petes fourth-round pick in April’s OHL draft. He is one of three 2019 draft picks the Petes signed and placed with the major midgets including forward Cole Patey and goalie Michael Simpson. They’ve helped the team to a 9-0 start in OMHA play and a No. 1 ranking in Ontario by My Hockey Rankings.
In other Petes news, Oke said the OHL rescinded a second fight on one stoppage penalty and game misconduct against defenceman Shawn Spearing assessed in last Saturday’s 10-3 win over the Mississauga Steelheads.
