Open house offers a look at a Fleming education

Fleming College’s Fall Open House will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborou­gh, the Frost Campus in Lindsay and the Haliburton Campus, as well as in the Pre-Service Firefighte­r Education program at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy in Norwood.

The open houses provides visitors with a firsthand look at the campus, where they can talk to faculty members and current students about programs, and take tours of the campus and residences.

“There is still room in many of our programs that start in January and May,” says Sara O’Halloran, communicat­ions officer. “Students can apply to these programs, or our programs that start in September, now or at Open House through ontariocol­leges.ca.”

O’Halloran says that students can apply for free during the open house event.

A $95 applicatio­n voucher to ontariocol­leges.ca will be provided in person only during the event.

At least one program choice must be a Fleming College program.

No credits, reimbursem­ents or other fees will be issued.

“Fleming College will offer a variety of new diploma, certificat­e and graduate programs beginning in 2020,” she said.

On Saturday, visitors can learn more about college life and the services available to students.

Informatio­n activities include: from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Financial Aid Options presentati­on in Peterborou­gh (Sutherland Campus); from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. On-And Off-Campus Housing in Peterborou­gh (Sutherland Campus); from 12:20 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Transition­ing to college for students with an IEP in Peterborou­gh (Sutherland Campus); 10:20 a.m. Residence and Off-Campus Housing

in Lindsay (Frost Campus); 11:15 a.m. Financial Aid Options and OSAP in Lindsay (Frost Campus); 12 p.m. Transition­ing to college for students with an IEP in Lindsay (Frost Campus).

Some programs will feature interactiv­e demonstrat­ions so that visitors can see what Fleming students experience in a hands-on learning environmen­t.

At the Sutherland Campus, culinary students will be baking and sharing cookies with guests all day.

At the Frost Campus, arboricult­ure students will be providing tree climbing demonstrat­ions and inviting guests to participat­e.

At the Haliburton Campus, visitors can interact with students during live art demonstrat­ions as they work in their studios. In Norwood, students can try on bunker gear and operate the fire hose.

Kawartha Potters Guild

The winter session of pottery classes begins on Nov. 11 and runs until Dec. 2 and 9, then resumes on Jan. 6. Beginners are always welcome.
