New community gardens keep sprouting up
Peterborough thriving with the highest per capita number of gardens, over 800 gardeners
What does the term “community garden” mean to you and what do you think it means to others in the community? To hear discussion on these questions, the public is invited to attend the What’s In A Name? A Community Garden Gathering event on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Peterborough Public Health, 185 King St.
The community garden movement in Peterborough is thriving with the highest per capita number of community gardens in the country and more than 800 gardeners. In addition, new gardens are sprouting up annually. Unfortunately, community gardens also face some challenges, including theft of harvests, confusion from the public as to what a community garden is, and at times, engagement from the community.
All are welcome to attend this meeting. Insights from community gardeners, garden co-ordinators, stakeholders and members of the general public are valued. All attendees will be entered to win a garden prize pack.
